Back in the early 1980’s it was felt by a small group of guys that London lacked what we call today a ‘safe space’ for LGBT East Asian guys and their friends. They got together to form a club – Long Yang Club – to provide that ‘safe space’

Since it’s beginnings in 1983, Long Yang Club has developed into an international network of groups with thousands of members. The London group has itself developed into a substantial player on the gay scene being the only group to focus on the LGBT East Asian community here, and as such being invited to take part in various community projects. It developed a Club Night and Karaoke, Sports Groups and various other one-off activities.

For ease of reference we refer to the London group as simply “LYC London”. We remain a volunteer-run organisation, and I have to say probably one of the most successful of its kind in the UK.

Our Karaoke Club Nights are now hosted by Village where we have the Basement Bar every Sunday from 7pm till 11.30pm. We also have very successful Sports Groups – Badminton, Tennis and Ten Pin Bowling, and are developing an extensive Support Service.
